2023.0511 Skip was a co-founder of kynamatrix Research Network and a passionate supporter of innovation and our scientific research initiatives. He was a visionary leader and a generous mentor. Skip will be greatly missed by all of us.

2017 Grant-Gift Awarded to Sawgrass Nature Center
2017.1104 We donated $1,000, for assistance with the basic needs of animals during the aftermath of disaster such as containment systems, food supplies, specialized care, and communication technology needed by staff to coordinate assistance. kynamatrix Research Network is designing a scalable and repeatable method of more effectively assisting all survivors in the aftermath of disaster. The vision of this project is focused on improving the long-term experience of survivors with new and innovative systems of resource provisioning for those left homeless and displaced. In line with our research initiative, the plans (algorithm) include assistance for families and their pets, and a wildlife welfare center.

Dr. Marvin Minsky [1927-2016]
2016.0127 We are deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Marvin Minsky's passing. He joined the kynamatrix Research Network board of directors in 2008 with a firm belief in our mission. He will always be remembered as a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence. Dr. Minsky will be missed.

2010.0514 kynamatrix is requesting proposals for Masters- or Doctoral-level collaborative projects from accredited institutions of higher education. kynamatrix will offer up to six (6) support grants of up to $1,500 each. Awards will be distributed in September, 2010. Awards are provided to the university for unrestricted use within the proposed project. A portion of the award is appropriated to the collaborating faculty advisors. Based on its successful pilot program begun in 2004, kynamatrix established a national grant gifting program, gifting to qualified universities to encourage collaboration and the study of interactive communication in the applied areas of art, science, music, and literature.
Alyce Hoggan nominated as MSAF Integral Fellow
2009.0514 Ms. Hoggan, Executive Director of kynamatrix, was nominated as a 2009 Microsoft Alumni Foundation Integral Fellow. Sixty-six alumni were nominated for their substantial and ongoing positive impact on the community. A Founders’ Gala will be held November 18th where the first three Integral Fellows will be honored. Bill Gates Sr. will be the keynote speaker and Bill and Melinda Gates will present the awards.
Dr. Marvin Minsky joins Board of Directors
2008.1211 kynamatrix Research Network today announced that Dr. Marvin Minsky has joined the Board of Directors. Dr. Minsky is a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, co-founder of MIT's AI laboratory, and Turing award winner. He is the author of a number of published works including "The Society of Mind" and "The Emotion Machine." His research has led to theoretical and practical advances in artificial intelligence and cognitive psychology. "We are very pleased to add Dr. Minsky to our board. He brings a wealth of experience to help kynamatrix with its mission," added Alyce Hoggan, Executive Director.

2008.1015 Microsoft held an event at the Redmond campus today as a kick-off for their annual Giving campaign. kynamatrix Research Network was one of approximately twenty charities in attendance. Employees stopped by the kynamatrix booth to learn about our programs and to sign up as volunteers.

Graduate Students Receive kynamatrix Research Grants
2007.1031 Today we awarded two research grants to School of Design graduate students Imran Sobh and Matthew Forrest in support of their thesis projects. The grants total $1500 for each project: $1000 is awarded to the student and $500 to the faculty advisors.

Six U.S. Universities Commence Collaborating via 2-way HD
2007.0424 Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and University of Washington commenced collaborating face-to-face today via 2-way high-definition videoconferencing.

2007.0321 LifeSize Communications today shipped units to the participating universities in the kynamatrix ResearcHDiscovery project. "This marks a major milestone in the project." said Alyce Hoggan, Executive Director of kynamatrix Research Network. She added, "We're extremely grateful to LifeSize for this gift. This is the dawn of an exciting new era in connecting researchers face-to-face across the country."
High Energy Meeting
2006.1012 Alyce Hoggan, Executive Director and Ruth Marsh, member of the Board of Directors of kynamatrix Research Network attended the Advancing Renewable Energy conference in St. Louis. The potential for collaborative research in the renewable energy sector can greatly benefit the people of the United States.
ResearcHDiscovery Announced
2006.0928 This afternoon, kynamatrix Research Network announced the renaming of its flagship project in the applied area of communication. "ResearcHDiscovery" is a proof-of-concept project connecting researchers face-to-face at six top universities across the United States using 2-way High Definition videoconferencing. The project was initiated in 2004 with the premise that innovation occurs in the space between two individuals as they collaborate.

2006.0822 kynamatrix Research Network today announced that the Internal Revenue Service now recognizes the organization as tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Board Expansion Completed
2006.0528 kynamatrix Research Network today announced the completion of their expansion to a five member board of directors with the addition of Mr. Steve Clark. "We are pleased to add Mr. Clark's expertise to our growing momentum." Mr. Clark was formerly with Microsoft Corporation and is a graduate of University of Hartford.
TransTube Initiative Announced
2006.0501 This morning, kynamatrix Research Network announced the creation of a new initiative in the applied area of transportation called "TransTube". The concept is to transport materials such as grocery products, fast foods, and other small consumables from a central warehouse into a residential neighborhood via pneumatic tubes. This infrastructure would vastly reduce or eliminate localized travel to and from residential markets. The technology should be incorporated into the planning stages of new communities.
Board Expanded
2006.0402 kynamatrix Research Network today announced the expansion of their board of directors, moving from a three member board to five. Ms. Ruth Marsh has been nominated and elected as the first member to fill one of the two new positions. "Ms. Marsh's experience in wind energy will help round out our Board's multidisciplinary outlook," according to Ms. Alyce Hoggan, Executive Director of kynamatrix Research Network. Ms. Marsh is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received her post-graduate degree from Stanford University.
Pilot Grant Program
2004.0820 kynamatrix Research Network today announces their management of a grant to Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design. "This unrestricted grant will foster collaborative research by Master's students and their advisors in the School of Design" said Ms. Alyce Hoggan, Executive Director of kynamatrix Research Network. "Also, this pilot grant will assist us in the process of defining our Grant Gifting Program," she said.
kynamatrix Research Network Launched
2004.0601 Alyce Hoggan and Skip Franklin, today announced they have initiated the nonprofit operations of an organization called kynamatrix Research Network. The mission of the organization is to scientifically research interactive communications, seeking alternative paradigms to the existing ways and means. The nonprofit organizational model was chosen so that innovation can be the focus rather than profit.
